From June 12 to June 15, 2025, the International Summer School Project for Physical Education Teachers (hereinafter referred to as the International Summer School) was held with the participation of scientists from the Korean Institute of Sports Science (KISS). From June 12 to 13, 2025, the academic part of the International Summer School was held in Astana, organized by the Academy of Physical Education and Mass Sports (hereinafter – APEMS), the National Scientific and Practical Center for Physical Culture of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter - Center) and the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – NOC RK) under the with the support of the Korea Institute of Sport Science (hereinafter - KISS).
It is worth noting that a similar educational event was organized for Kazakhstani physical education teachers for the first time. The international Summer School project has left many vivid impressions and has become an important platform for cultural exchange and professional interaction.
Thematic exhibitions were organized within the framework of the International Summer School: Andrey GERSHEVICH, the State swimming coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented a private collection of Olympic badges from different years, which the author has been replenishing for more than 15 years. APEMS presented scientific equipment and portable simulators that are used to implement scientific projects on physical culture and sports; APEMS also presented existing educational programs and an innovative MBA program in sports management. The Center, in turn, held an exhibition of national sports such as togyzkumalak, asyk atu and others, where participants could get to know traditional games in practice and try their hand. The Korea Institute of Sport Science guests showed a special interest in the game of assyk atu, emphasizing that it requires dexterity and excellent coordination.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Mr. CHO Tae-ik, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Kazakhstan. In his address, he stressed the importance of strengthening Kazakh-Korean cooperation in education, science, physical culture, and sports.
Yerlan KALMAKOV, Director of the Department of Educational Work and Additional Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of international educational initiatives to improve teachers' professional levels.
In his welcoming speech, the Chief Researcher of KISS, Mr. KIM Kwon Il, noted the importance of scientific and educational cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Kazakhstan, the effective interaction of KISS and APEMS, emphasizing that the International Summer School project is designed to become an effective platform for the exchange of international experience and the introduction of advanced techniques in the field of physical culture and sports. On behalf of the Korean Institute of Sports Science, Mr. KIM expressed gratitude to the organizers and wished all participants successful and fruitful work and professional growth.
Alimzhan AKAYEV, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Arman TASHMETOV, Director General of the National Scientific and Practical Center of Physical Culture of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Tursynzada KUANGALIYEVA, Rector of the Academy of Physical Education and Mass Sports, also addressed the participants of the Summer School with welcoming words. In their speeches, they emphasized the key role of physical culture in shaping a healthy and active society and the importance of introducing modern methods of training teachers and coaches. Special attention was paid to the importance of international educational initiatives and cooperation with foreign scientific organizations, such as the Korea Institute of Sports Science. In addition, it was noted that such events should be held regularly to expand professional and cultural exchange in physical education.
An important event within the framework of the International Summer School was the signing of memoranda of cooperation and mutual understanding between the Academy of Physical Education and Mass Sports and the Korea Institute of Sports Science, as well as between the National Scientific and Practical Center of Physical Culture of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Korea Institute of Sport Science. The ceremony emphasized the parties' willingness to cooperate long-term, implement joint projects, and exchange international experiences in physical culture and sports.
As part of the theoretical part of the International Summer School, on June 12-13, Korean scientists gave a series of lectures on modern approaches to physical education in secondary schools, topical issues of school sports development, and physiological aspects of planning and conducting physical education lessons.
The lecture material by KISS's chief Researcher, Mr. KIM Kwon Il, was devoted to unified athletics and support for students with special educational needs.
This was followed by presentations by KISS scientists, among whom were:
– KIM Hyun Jeong, president of Little Story Power Plant, shared South Korea's experience in fostering physical activity among citizens;
– PARK Yong Nam, a researcher at the KISS Department of Sports Policy and Development, presented a topic on the professional activities of physical education teachers in the Republic of Korea;
– PARK Won Il, a researcher at the KISS Sports Industry Department, dedicated his lecture to the policy of physical education in schools in South Korea and methods for assessing young people's physical fitness.
On June 13, the work of the International Summer School continued with meaningful lectures by Dr. CHO Hyun Joo, senior researcher at KISS, with reports on the use of educational resources, seminars on physical culture, as well as UNESCO's activities in the field of education and the "Fit for Life" program, which is being implemented in South Korea to involve the population in physical activity and sports.
In order to familiarize participants with the activities of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter - the NOC of the Republic of Kazakhstan), programs and initiatives implemented by the NOC of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the socialization of athletes completing their professional sports careers, as well as on the eve of the International Olympic Day, which will be held on June 23, he was invited to speak at the International Summer School with a report on Olympic education Chief Manager of the Sports Department of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Olzhas TOGIZBAYEV, in turn, is a graduate of the International Master's Program of Seoul National University for the Training of Sports Managers "Dream Together Program."
Between sessions, participants were given time for coffee breaks, lunch breaks, and informal socializing, which helped strengthen professional ties and exchange experiences. The end of the eventful academic program was the solemn ceremony of awarding certificates confirming the teachers' participation in the International Summer School and their desire for professional growth in the field of physical education.
The practical part of the International project "Summer School" for physical education teachers
On June 14 and 15, 2025, the practical part of the International Summer School Project continued in Shchuchinsk based on the Olympic Winter Sports Training Center. According to the program, the participants visited the Baldauren Children's Center and the IQanat school, where they got acquainted with the activities of these organizations and sports facilities, where physical education and sports classes are held. After the excursion program, the teachers participated in a series of master classes conducted by scientists and practitioners of the Korean Institute of Sports Science, represented by OH Eun Young, KIM Soo Jin, and KIM Hyun Jeong. The master classes were aimed at the applied aspects of teaching physical education in secondary schools, the exchange of practically applicable methods by Kazakhstani teachers and Korean specialists, and modern approaches to physical education lessons. The practical classes of the International Summer School were filled with relay races, team games, intellectual games, and physical activity, contributing to the formation of team spirit and engagement. In the evening, a cultural event was held, during which the participants got acquainted with Kazakhstani traditional sports games, which contributed to developing intercultural dialogue and strengthening a friendly atmosphere.
On June 15, the participants of the International Summer School held a team morning exercise, which set a positive tone for the whole day.
As part of the practical lesson, they put their knowledge into practice: they developed and presented their lesson plans on physical education according to the assignment. This was the logical conclusion of a busy, practical program part.
The event allowed teachers to deepen their professional competencies, exchange experiences, discuss the prospects for introducing modern methods into the educational process, and identify areas for further cooperation.
In their free time, the participants visited the swimming pool and went hiking on the territory of the Olympic Winter Sports Training Center.
The Academy of Physical Education and Mass Sports, continuing to develop international cooperation, intends to implement similar projects, thereby contributing to developing education, science, physical culture, and sports in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
